Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular program wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
