As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Actions

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military presence.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced growing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.

Although the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
