The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
