Survey Reveals Denmark's Residents Rank as the Continent's Keenest Public Nudity Enthusiasts

Although Germans traditionally possessed an image as the continent's keenest nudists, recent findings suggests that Danish individuals not just more tolerant concerning undressing publicly, and also more inclined to have engaged in it.

Research Parameters

This extensive survey covered six western European countries – Britain, the Danish nation, the French republic, Germany, the Italian peninsula and the Spanish kingdom. Results showed that Danish respondents stood out as most probable to assert that being naked in public was perfectly acceptable – plus to have followed through.

Broad Views Throughout European Nations

Unsurprisingly, large majorities across all six countries felt that nudity was fine in dedicated naturist spots. Between most respondents were comfortable with clothing-optional campgrounds, whereas 77-91% supported nudist beaches.

Country-Specific Attitudes

While respondents in all studied states objected to public nakedness in places including public swimming pools or public gardens, Danish attitudes differed significantly. Approximately 35% Danish respondents considered it acceptable to strip off on a regular beach, while 87% believed being naked in personal outdoor space was appropriate.

Rural Nudity Perspectives

Danish respondents also demonstrated increased tolerance toward nudity in the natural landscapes. Meanwhile, majorities in the remaining nations – from as low as fifty-eight percent in the German population to 78% in British respondents – considered hiking nude as not acceptable.

Skinny Dipping Practices

Concerning skinny dipping in the sea, lakes or waterways, Danish people demonstrated significantly the highest tolerance. Around 64% felt the practice entirely appropriate, compared with just 25% of Italians, 31% of French people, thirty-two percent of Britons and forty-nine percent of Germans.

Actual Participation Rates

Danes not only voice supportive attitudes and also showed high participation rates. In response to queries about in what multiple locations they had actually stripped off as grown-ups, the majority of Danish participants reported at least one experience.

That stood against forty-five percent of German respondents and 44% of respondents from Spain. A significant divide emerged among these countries versus the others, with just 31% of French respondents, 25% of British people plus twenty-two percent of respondents from Italy acknowledging to being completely naked in open spaces as adults.

Specific Location Breakdown

  • Danes were the most likely to be unclothed in their private garden and go skinny dipping, with significant percentages indicating such activities
  • Compared to only 27-29% of Spaniards
  • approximately one-fifth to one-third of German respondents
  • 19% of participants from France
  • 13-14% of UK residents
  • approximately one-tenth of respondents from Italy

German Naturist Tradition

German respondents, though, demonstrated their dominant role when it concerned stripping off in settings expressly created for naturist activities. This illustrates Germany's longstanding "FKK movement" – a practice dating back to the nineteenth century.

Although recent declines in modern times, the German nation still stands as among most accepting countries internationally for stripping off in specific areas. Areas of beaches, lakesides and campsites are reserved by law for clothing-optional recreation.

Official Nudist Locations

The survey indicated that just twelve percent of Danes had stripped off in dedicated naturist sites like beaches and campsites. This was higher than British engagement at six percent, was similar to France's percentages at fourteen percent and Italy's at 11%, but fell below Spanish twenty-two percent and Germany's twenty-five percent.

Potential Participation

Participants from Denmark also demonstrated greater willingness to participate in public nudity in the future. Approximately 50% stated they would be willing to strip off in a public place, versus forty-two percent of Germans, thirty-eight percent of Spanish people, thirty-four percent of French people along with 29% of each of British people plus Italians.

Demographic Variations

In all six countries, male participants demonstrated more interest compared to women regarding stripping off. Generational trends additionally were evident: Among Danes, younger generations were more accepting to public nudity, while in Germany the contrasting situation prevailed.

Specifically, thirty-one percent of younger Germans expressed willingness to be naked publicly, compared with nearly half of over-50s.
