Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further message on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a dual adaptation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful movie of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for best costume and production design.
