Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Fitness Worries.
'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.
The English seamer increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.
Atkinson pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "during the day".
The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.
England have been without strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.
His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.
He was dropped of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 while batting among just a trio of English batsmen who passed ten runs.
Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.
Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.
The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
