Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks suggested the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
