Both Deceased Students Named in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Killer.
Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent violent attack on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the release by Rhode Island officials of the sole person of interest in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.
Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”
The Second Victim
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.
The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.
The Shooting Incident
An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.
“There is a killer at large,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a authority told the media outlet.
Officers that raided the lodging recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was arrested, according to reports.
Those Hurt
Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”
A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.
The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”
